Beyond Chinoiserie is a collection of original designs rooted in Chinese artistic traditions and reimagined for the present. Rather than treating Chinese aesthetics as a distant decorative fantasy, it approaches them as a living visual language—rich in symbolism, movement, intricate pattern and the natural world.

Real Phalaenopsis and Cymbidium orchids, carefully preserved and sealed in resin, meet forms drawn from traditional hair ornaments and decorative arts: the gentle movement of buyao-inspired pendants, flowing ruyi and scrolling-vine motifs, continuous key-fret geometry, openwork floral metalwork inspired by huasi filigree, and the rhythm of bell and tassel ornaments. Butterfly, flower and lattice details bring their own character to each composition.

The orchid holds a particular place in Chinese literati culture, where it has long been admired for its quiet grace and integrity. Here, that botanical symbolism meets carefully chosen metalwork, pearl accents and dangling details—traditional references reshaped through a contemporary eye rather than reproduced as historical artefacts.

From refined hairpins and combs to more expressive ornamental pieces, each design brings together botanical preservation, cultural reference and modern styling. This is not a reconstruction of the past, but an ongoing conversation with it.
